Richmond Theater Fire Book: Page Proofs on their Way!

It’s deadline time! The good people at Louisiana State University Press estimate that I’ll be receiving the page proofs for my book on November 29th. This will be my chance to see the book’s final layout (font, spacing, illustrations), and I’ll have one last chance to make changes. This is also the point where we build the book’s index. It’s amazing to finally arrive at this point after six years of researching/writing about the theater fire and early republic Richmond.  Although I’ll mostly be buried in the text for the next week or two, I hope to update this blog with more news about the book and the commemorations going on in Virginia as the 200 year anniversary of the disaster approaches.

Over the next several months I’ll also be sharing the story of how I came to write The Richmond Theater Fire: Early America’s First Great Disaster. By doing so, I hope the blog will become a useful source for students wondering how to turn their graduate research into a manuscript and then a published book. Thanks for reading and feel free to drop me a line.
