Quoit Club at Monumental Aug. 16th

Great Event Alert! The Historic Richmond Foundation is hosting a Quoit Club event at Monumental Church this Thursday, August 16th at 6pm. Haven’t heard of the Quoit Club?
In their words: “Named for Richmond’s most popular 19th century social club, the Quoit Club is Richmond’s premiere organization for people who enjoy experiencing history and architecture with a social twist. Traditionally, quoits was a game played during the nineteenth century with steel rings and metal spikes. Today, the Quoit Club supports Historic Richmond Foundation’s mission to preserve the area’s unique heritage by promoting social and educational gatherings at historic sites.”

If I lived in Richmond, I would join this club in a minute.

1224 E. Broad Street, Richmond, VA 23219
Please note: Due to extenuating circumstances the venue for Thursday the 16th has changed from the Branch House to Monumental Church. We look forward to seeing you there.

Join the Quoit Club of Historic Richmond Foundation as we tour Monumental Church, including a rare glimpse at the crypt downstairs where the remains of 72 individuals who died in the Richmond Theater Fire of 1811 are buried. Designed by Robert Mills, American’s first native born architect and Thomas Jefferson’s only architectural student, Monumental Church was constructed in 1814 as a memorial to those lost in the fire. It is the most elaborate and only surviving of the five domed, octagonal buildings designed by Mills, making it a priceless component of America’s historical and architectural landscapes. And it’s available for wedding rentals and other events!
The event begins at 6:00 p.m. Drinks and hors d’oeuvres will be served on site. Single event ticket: $20.
Free parking is available directly across the street behind the Department of Transportation on Old 14th Street. Look for “Monumental Church Event Parking” sign and blue balloons.
